AE Jolliffe & Son Funeral Directors, part of the esteemed Douch Family Funeral Directors, has been serving families in Dorset for over 100 years with compassion and professionalism. We are a family-owned business dedicated to supporting families during their time of loss.

We are seeking a compassionate and empathetic individual to join our team as a Funeral Director. You will arrange funerals, provide support and guidance to our clients, and prioritise their needs. Previous experience as a Funeral Director is required to ensure you can meet our high standards of service. You will join a dedicated, professional team committed to upholding our long-standing reputation for service, trust, value, care, and understanding.

We Are Looking For Someone With:

  • Prior experience as a Funeral Director required.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills. A good listener, with a relaxed and positive attitude, with great empathy and understanding of the needs of our clients and those of the team.
  • Good computer literacy which includes Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word and our in-house computer system.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to take on various roles and responsibilities.
  • Sensitivity and tact in handling emotional situations.
  • A valid UK driver’s licence.
  • Knowledge of funeral service regulations and legal requirements.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

Duties To Include:

  • Meet with clients to discuss funeral arrangements.
  • Arranging transportation and necessary legal documents.
  • Coordinate with service providers for seamless funeral services.
  • Performing other duties as and when required within the branch to include administrative duties, bearing, driving vehicles, attending first calls, workshop, garage and mortuary duties.
  • Collaborate with other members of the team and external suppliers, to ensure all aspects of the funeral process run smoothly, including organising transportation, coffin selection, floral arrangements and catering venues.
  • Manage administrative tasks, including completing necessary paperwork and coordinating with other branches.
  • Oversee funeral services and ensure they are conducted in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Providing the necessary aftercare following the funeral service.
  • Providing advice on the types of memorials compliant with local regulations and supplying written estimates for the supplying of such a memorial.
  • Ordering memorials from suppliers, making the necessary application to the relevant authorities for permission to erect memorials.
  • Assisting with the arrangements for the interment or scattering of ashes.
  • To be a member of the ‘On-Call’ Rota, to include 24-hour coverage.
  • Providing information on our company pre-paid funeral plans.
  • Building relationships within the community.

The successful applicant must be willing to undertake training to become a regulated seller of our Funeral Plan.

This is a full-time, permanent position – 40 hours per week plus on call.

Salary: £27,000 – £29,000 dependant on experience plus ancillary payments.
